I hope your week has been beautiful. I apohair have been wearing hair
extensions for almost 10 years on and off now and it is one of the
easiest ways to switch up my style while letting my natural hair grow as
much as possible.
In the past 3 years, I have been wearing human hair extensions or weaves because they are more natural looking and last for a really long time. They have not been cheap at all and their prices depend on what length you choose which is why i always take care of my weaves/hair extensions to ensure they last for a really long time and look healthy while they are installed on my hair. A lot of people think they do not have to take care of their weaves but that's wrong. Don’t think for a second that just because you have a sew-in that you don’t have to take care of your hair underneath. You would lose valuable time and growth if you make that mistake. Having a weave provides you with many benefits, and due to low manipulation it allows your hair to thrive and grow at what seems like warp speed. It’s not that you hair really does grow faster when you have a weave installed, it’s just that you can retain the majority of your length if you go about it correctly. I will walk you through the steps I take to make sure my weave stays fly while keeping my hair intact
Great Quality Weaves
The key point to ensure your weave lasts as long as possible is to choose the best quality hair. It would rather spend a lot of money on weaves with outstanding quality than buy some cheap that would only last for a few weeks. With all sorts of bad quality hair, it is wise to be smart about where you are buying from.When choosing the best hair extensions, you should check whether it is made from natural human hair or synthetic. Not only will human hair last longer, it will look like your real hair and can be treated like one. With synthetic hair you cannot use any heat (such as blow-dryer or irons) or swim with them in.Most high quality weaves feel soft to touch, you can run your finger through them easily, the wefts are well sewn on and it is usually devoid of any untoward smell. Good quality weaves would hold a curl easily, have a natural lustre, would not tangle (that's my pet peeve), would not matt in humid conditions and most importantly, it would last for a really long time no matter how many times you install it.
Minimal Manipulation
A good style would help maintain your weave for a long time. I prefer to install low maintenance styles that requires minimal manipulation.If you have to pull, tug, brush and comb your hair to frame the style every morning then it would be too much tension both for your natural hair and your extension which is not very good. Furthermore, when you manipulate your extensions every time, you stand the risk of experiencing shedding no matter how tightly wefted the extensions are or how well you sealed the wefts.

The waves will look best if is kept simple.To style hair extensions,
use a looper brush, or a smooth styling comb.Be gentle with your hair
and hair extensions. Brushing hair roughly can cause it to break and
become fuzzy. Hair extensions also break from this type of treatment and
the clips holding clip-on extensions may become exposed. Always start
at the bottom and work your way up when untangling knotted hair. In the
shower, you should put on a shower cap in order to prevent water getting
to my weave as that's not very good especially when i am not washing my
weave afterwards. If you want curls, you can use bendy rollers
overnight protected in the silk bonnet and go to bed to wake up to
lovely heat-less curls
Shampoo and Condition the Hair
Another mistake when using hair extension is lack of deep conditioning and moisturing . Even without a weave, you must never skip this step. Conditioners and moistures that are very thin in nature work best when you condition your hair under a weave. Just think, you have a head full of added hair on your head and you have to get through that before you can even get to your own hair, which is braided tightly. The goal is to make sure that every strand of hair from the root to the tip gets the benefit of the conditioner. Once the hair is free of tangles, gradually wet it. Adding a lot of water to hair at once can cause it to swell and tangle. Gently apply shampoo and rinse it out with your head tilted back. Never wash extensions over a bath or basin as this could damage them. Apply a nourishing conditioner, focusing on the ends of the hair, and rinse. Avoid greasy products as these break down the chemical bonds holding the extensions onto the hair. Wrap wet hair in a towel to absorb excess moisture or pat dry: never rub hair with extensions.Minimal Heat Application
Many people use heat almost everyday on their extensions and they wonder why their extensions look dodgy after a little while. Applying heat consistently to any kind of hair (both your natural hair and your extensions) has never been a good thing. Constant heat applications through curlers and straighteners would only add to eventual collateral damage to your hair extensions. Sometimes, it can even change the texture and the soft silky feel of lovely hair extensions may even disappear forever. I know it can be fun with the rollers, curlers and straighteners but it should not be done too often. With extensions, you should apply heat to them once in two weeks (I am lexcept i am in dire need of a different look for an occasion. You can always get curls using bendy rollers or even pin curls with thousands of tutorials for heat-less curls on YouTube.
Colouring and Bleaching your extensions
If your clip in hair extensions aren't quite the right color and you'd like to color them at home, these steps can guide you through the process. Before you begin you'll want to make sure that your hair extensions are human hair. Artificial hair can not be successfully colored.
I do not recommend lightening your hair extensions at home. You may want to enlist the help of a professional hair stylist to lighten your extensions or add highlights. Darkening your color, or altering the tone (adding or removing red tones, for example) can be safely done by choosing a color that will not damage your extensions. To choose a color, I recommend that you purchase a hair color and developer from a beauty supply store like Sally's. A box color from a drug store does not give you the option to choose the developer that you will use on your hair extensions. Choose a 10 volume developer or a demi-permanent color if at all possible. You can use 20 volume developer if necessary, but I would not recommend using 30 volume or 40 volume on your hair extensions. Higher developers could cause damage to your hair extensions if you're not careful.
